Dani, thank you for the kind words, and I'm so glad to hear that the Logbook cover was a success! Definitely seems like a good one to snap up if Weems & Plath does stop making them. As of today, Amazon is showing just <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IMYX8K?ie=UTF8&tag=gifforlawstu-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000IMYX8K" rel="nofollow">7 left in stock</a>!<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=gifforlawstu-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000IMYX8K" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Emily, the teak logbook cover was a great idea! I bought one for my former boss, who retired and bought a sailboat.

I bought the log book at a local West Marine store, where it was on sale (pun not intended), more than 1/2 off the price online! That enabled me to get the logbook to go inside it (and another small gift as well). My ex-boss was very happy with all of the gifts. The logbook cover is classy.

However, the clerks West Marine told me that Weems & Plath, the manufacturer of the teak logbook covers, wasn't going to make them anymore. (Perhaps that is why it was on clearance.) I'm glad I was able to get one, and at a great deal. Thanks for the idea!

Hi Jennifer,

I'm also a sailing instructor (well, volunteer), and let me tell you, we spend a lot of time in life jackets! The worst part is that like everything else on a boat life jackets never really dry out, so old ones take on this horrible musty smell which lingers on your clothes, hair, everywhere... So I definitely think a new life jacket could be an appreciated gift! Besides, guys are practical-minded when it comes to gifts.

Just make sure you get one of the athletic style life jackets like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047E1BN0?ie=UTF8&tag=gifts4boats-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0047E1BN0
They're much more comfortable than traditional life jackets!

Or if he teaches offshore sailing you'll want to get one of the self-inflating kinds like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NV9W9Q?ie=UTF8&tag=gifts4boats-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000NV9W9Q

Good luck!

Hi Emily,

I was just wondering about a gift for my boyfriend, he is a sailing instructor and really needs a new life jacket. I was thinking of getting him one, but I'm worried he will think it is a dumb gift, because if he asked his parents they would probably just buy him one,
I dunno :( help!
haha

Thanks!

Nevertheless choosing the perfect gift is less marketing than art form.
